i have noticed this week that the sun seems to be taking a different path throughout the day. it seems to have moved over to the side a bit, and doesn't seem as intense. it took me back a few years to when cody was a baby. i remember driving down longeway road in late august, in raleigh's lowrider chevy pickup, headed for the post office. it was the first time that i had ever noticed the subtle evidence that a new season was on the way.
over the years i have come to realize that the fall is my favorite season. i used to think it was spring, but picked up on the fact that i look forward to fall. i love how all the seasons bring something new with them, and i seem to be ready for each one as it comes, but i find myself longing for fall.
maybe it's the coolness it brings, the faint smell of chimney smoke in the air, pumpkins and trees turning their color and nature walks with the kids. or in my house the structure after a busy, out of control summer. maybe it's just much needed change. something new to keep us going. what ever the reason i welcome it.
this picture is one of my favorite fall memories. obviously taken years ago, the pumpkins, 13 of them, were from a volunteer plant that came up in the garden. it was the biggest crop of pumpkins we have ever grown. most of them were a funny color. and when we carved them they smelled like cucumbers instead of pumpkins. i'm not sure where they came from, but we sure enjoy the memory of them.
so, one more month and the much anticipated fall will arrive bringing with it new memories of it's own. i can't wait!
