kermit

my grandma bought a new car in 1979. she needed it to take her mother to doctor's appointments and such. after her mother passed away it became known as "grandma's car". 

we took many trips in the little green car. i remember as a kid loading up to go christmas shopping in modesto almost annually. we also made several trips to the sacramento airport to drop off or pick up uncle ed. he traveled a lot when i was small.  

in later years it became ed's car. he sailed around town in it for years, until he became convinced that it wasn't reliable anymore. so, then it sat... and sat... and sat... until grandma asked if anyone would like to have it. gas prices were pushing $4.50 a gallon at the time and we thought sure, we could use some fuel economy. 

the kids and i had thought we might use it for a newspaper route so we brought it home and raleigh tinkered with it for a few days. cleaning it, fixing miscellaneous little leaks and even managed to get the a/c working. the newspaper thing didn't work out so it became raleigh's little car to commute to work in and somehow it acquired the name kermit. 

last saturday we took kermit to stockton. cody had his last league game and taylor was at a sleep over so the rest of us fit in the little car. we sailed along nicely. there were three ipod's across the back seat singing there own tunes out loud! we heard a version of, it's a beautiful day/12 days of christmas/stars. raleigh and i chuckled to ourselves as we chatted the drive away, thoroughly enjoying ourselves. 

on the way home we stopped and did some grocery shopping, making me appreciate the space of our suburban, but still thankful for the fact that we drove to the valley and back on under 20$. it was a good day, adding to my memories of kermit the little green car!
