fun times

as june is heading out i thought i would share some of our fun times. i am truly enjoying the fact that there is no school, especially because raleigh's job schedule keeps fluctuating between night and day shifts. there are days when i really don't know what day it is, or care for that matter because i am in a zombie state of mind. poor raleigh, he has to figure out how to work while feeling this way, i at least am able to frequent a nap when convenient! anyway, summer has had it's busy and slow days.

here are the highlights...

we made homemade ice cream!!! i was given an electric ice cream maker years ago and have never used it. the kids have asked me and asked me to make ice cream to which i would reply, "not today". last week i was reading an article on a blog i enjoy about strawberries that included a recipe for ice cream. as i read it i thought how easy it would be to make it "taylor" friendly using goats milk and... it worked.
my sweet friend karen shared a recipe with me for egg rolls after my son came home from a sleep over at her house and raved about how good the egg rolls she made for dinner were. i learned long ago that when my kids get excited about a meal that is pretty good for them i need to jump at the chance to make it. they were soooo easy to prepare and my whole family gobbled them up. we liked them enough to have them on the dinner menu two weeks in a row. thanks karen!
i can't say enough about what a trooper my kyle is. you might all be puzzled by this picture since most of you know his birthday isn't in june and this looks very much like a birthday moment. well, it is! kyle spent his birthday remembering david, my mentally handicapped cousin who passed away. the services were spread out over a weeks time, including kyle's day. we did the best we could at honoring kyle, but in the midst of the funeral and burial his homemade chocolate pudding "cake" never was made. i could give you all of the other excuses for why it took so long to get it done, however i won't. i finally got it made three months late. (the day before the ice cream) we sang and he got to blow out the candle. i apologized for not getting it done sooner to which he replied with a shrug, "it's o.k. mom, do i get a candle"? what a guy!
for fathers day weekend we went on a bike ride out to lions lake. we ate a pic-nic dinner and skipped rocks into the lake. i am honored to be married to such an amazing father!
