i would say that raleigh's birthday turned out to be a successful day. we all got up early to see him before he headed out to work. the kids had been beside themselves with excitement all week anticipating the gift giving, so they eagerly popped out of bed before 5am. we adjusted our school day to accommodate extra cleaning and cake baking.
raleigh wanted these incredibly rich brownies that he had seen on the food network, he'd also said something about an ice cream cake. i tried to put the two together and came up with a sickening sweet goo of a cake. the brownies are more like fudge than brownies. they called for a pound of butter, two pounds of chocolate and a few other ingredients. i topped it with heath bar ice cream, whipped cream and chocolate syrup. it was so rich!
the phone rang, email popped up throughout the day, and raleigh's dad came by for a visit. then we headed out to dinner at the diamond back with raleigh's mom. patricia knew the waitress so we ended up in a little area all to ourselves, with excellent service. we laughed, ate and reminisced the evening away. oddly enough, another family, old neighbors that had lived down the street from the harrelsons growing up, were there too celebrating a birthday. we all laughed on the way out as we gave hugs and remembered that raleigh and heidi had shared birthdays.
even though raleigh had to work, he had a fairly easy day. we spoke several times on the phone, and he seemed happy, which was our mission.
i'd say the day was successful!!!
