the wish book

i remember how exciting it was as a kid to get the holiday wish book. i don't remember seeing one in years, but this year we got one in the mail.

it's nostalgic for me to watch my kids looking at fun things the way i used to. i don't thinks it's greed or selfishness they are after. they, as i did, like to imagine the what ifs.

i remember lying in an old funky blue sparkly chair that my dad had in the living room, dreaming of the barbie mansion. remember those? i also wanted the large barbie head so i could do their hair and make-up. and the fancy clothes. oh, the thought of a new store bought outfit! my family was always on a pretty tight budget, so i never got anything from the wish book, but it was still fun to wish.

these days i find myself looking in catalogs dreaming of very different things. new carpet, fancy two drawer dishwashers, pretty bathroom fixtures... at 32 it's still fun to dream. i know most if not all of these things can be done with out, but i can't help but imagine, just like the little girl in the blue sparkly chair.
