our garden

i am so very excited about our garden this year. we are having a pretty successful one so far. only one plant lost, and no deer!

after having some bad garden experiences in the past, and being wiped out by the deer last year, we took a few measures to protect ourselves. i don't know about you, but it stabs me right through the heart to wake up and find that the deer have found you!

for mothers day, raleigh took me to the local hardware store to shop for fencing. i was tickled. i would rather poke around in a hardware store any day over any other kind of shopping. we considered a few key factors to buying fencing materials. limited funds and needing something temporary incase we actually move to our own house. we came up with a solution, that despite a few chuckles, has worked so far. metal stakes and yard twine.

raleigh faithfully came home and pounded in the stakes, and strung the twine. as i stood inside looking at his handy work, my heart was so filled with gladness. even though it's not a fancy wire fence, it's the first time we've had a fence at all. we intended on building a gate too, but as i'm sure you know, time seems to get away from you. so for now we use our lawn chairs. they seem to be working.

i so anticipate the harvest. the heat has been helping things grow taller each day. buds are appearing and the veggies are beginning to show. i can't wait to feast on our homegrown goodness. provided the critters continue to keep out!!!
